چکیده

Postoperative intra-abdominal adhesions are a significant complication of horses undergoing abdominal surgery, intestinal resection, and anastomosis for intestinal diseases. The use of a bioresorbable, hyaluronate (HA-) membrane may reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with surgical intestinal diseases in horses. Specific indications, method of application, and advantages and disadvantages of using HA-membranes in horses are discussed. Evaluation of a Bioresorbable Hyaluronate Membrane for Prevention of Experimentally Induced Abdominal Adhesions in Horses

The use of a bioresorbable, hyaluronate membrane during exploratory celiotomy in horses minimizes postoperative intra-abdominal adhesion formation. In horses at an increased risk of intra-abdominal adhesion formation, the application of hyaluronate membranes during exploratory celiotomy may reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with abdominal surgery. Efficacy of Polypropylene Mesh Coated with Bioresorbable Membrane (Sepramesh) for the Repair of Abdominal Wall Defects in Horses

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the use of Polypropylene mesh (Prolene) and Sepramesh, a coated Polypropylene mesh with a protective layer of Seprafilm on its visceral side, for the repair of abdominal wall defects in horses. We also aimed to quantify the consequent visceral adhesion and tissue inflammatio Design: Experimental study. Animals: Ten horses. Methods: The horses w...

Evaluation of the xenobiotic reaction against hyaluronate-based bioresorbable membrane in the abdominal cavity

Postoperative abdominal adhesions are one of the most common post-laparotomy complications observed. Several types of adhesion preventative agents are available and their effectiveness and adverse impact have been clinically evaluated in previous studies. However, few basic studies have tested whether those agents do not trigger any unwanted xenobiotic reaction, which makes some surgeons hesita...

The efficacy of a hyaluronate/carboxymethylcellulose membrane in prevention of postoperative adhesion in a rat uterine horn model.

The current study was designed to investigate the efficacy of a hyaluronate/carboxymethylcellulose membrane for the prevention of post-operative adhesion in a rat uterine horn model. This is a prospective double-blinded controlled study. Nineteen injured uterine horns were treated with a hyaluronate/carboxymethylcellulose membrane as a barrier and 19 injured uterine horns without any treatment ...

Evaluation of a Novel Method of Jejunal Anastomosis in Horses Using a Hyaluronate Membrane

A single-layer, appositional, end-to-end anastomosis covered by a bioresorbable, hyaluronate membrane is an effective method for small intestinal anastomosis in horses. This technique provides a larger stomal diameter and reduced surgery times as compared to standard inverting anastomotic techniques, and minimizes the incidence of intra-abdominal adhesion formation. Authors’ addresses: Departme...
